About AZAFAP

Founded in 2003, the Arizona Association for Foster and Adoptive Parents exists to support foster, kinship, and adoptive families who care for Arizona’s most vulnerable children

Our volunteer Board of Directors is made up entirely of individuals with lived experience as foster, kinship, and adoptive parents.
Join us in strengthening our community and improving the lives of children across Arizona. Together, we can make a lasting difference.

Why Serve on the AZAFAP Board?

Board members play a vital role in shaping the future of our organization. You’ll help create family‑connection events, expand community partnerships, and support fundraising efforts that directly benefit children in foster care across Arizona.

Serving on the board is an opportunity to:

  • Strengthen the foster care community
  • Build relationships with dedicated caregivers and advocates
  • Use your skills to support statewide impact
  • Help ensure families feel seen, supported, and connected

Key Responsibilities

While all board members contribute to governance, AZAFAP places special emphasis on fundraising, events, and committee participation. Board members are expected to:

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with fellow board members, staff, and volunteers to advance AZAFAP’s mission
  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational decision‑making
  • Help develop the annual budget and events calendar

Events & Committees

  • Chair at least one event or committee each year
  • Serve on one or more committees (fundraising, events, outreach, membership, etc.)
  • Attend AZAFAP events when possible and support event execution

Fundraising & Outreach

  • Support fundraising efforts, including community outreach and donor engagement
  • Consider making a tax credit donation to benefit AZAFAP
  • Promote AZAFAP within your networks and help expand community partnerships

Governance & Accountability

  • Attend monthly board meetings
  • Review reports and materials between meetings
  • Contribute at least 4 hours per month beyond board meetings to AZAFAP activities
  • Pay membership dues and event fees on time
